Gregory Alan Isakov's “SOUTHERN STAR” Music Video

Gregory Alan Isakov’s music video for “Southern Star” is premiering today at Paste. Watch/share HERE. The live video was filmed and directed by Bryan Dos Reis while Isakov and his band were recently passing through Boston.

The track comes from Isakov’s new album, Evening Machines, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart and is out now on Dualtone Records(stream/purchase here). Isakov wrote “Southern Star” while doing a writing exercise that involved choosing random words from several books (science-fiction and romance novels) he picked up from the dollar bin at his local bookstore.

In continued celebration of the release, Isakov will be embarking on a tour at the end of July that includes a SOLD-OUT headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre (Aug 4th), with a second show now added at the brand-new Mission Ballroom (Aug 11th). First Look: Heat Dish (Motion Trap Remix) Video Premiere

We have the exclusive premiere of the video for Heat Dish (Motion Trap Remix). The video features Reed Fox (DeCollage), Megan Crooks (Ancient Elk), Jeremy Averitt (Esmé Patterson) and Kevin Netz (Jurassic Netz). The video is a visual explosion of beauty backed by the catchy house rhythms.

"Video feedback is a technique I learned from John Grigsby (local bass legend) and he learned it from his father. It involves taking a live camera and pointing the camera back into its own output until it creates a repeating spinning image. Then we added a few images between the camera and the screen." ~ Jeremy Averitt

"We borrowed an old analog video camera from the Oriental Theater with a VCR inside of it. We realized it belonged to Eldren's VJ after watching what was on the VCR. He was happy to get it back (he left it there after a show). We shot the video in 4 takes live in time with the song. Then Josh Heenan helped me edit it a month later between taking breaks to play with video feedback on a stack of 5 TV's. We wanted to throw in extra video of all of the musicians involved but our goal was to stay true to the footage we filmed that magic night with Jeremy and Kevin." ~ Reed Fox

According to Wikipedia: "Video feedback is the process that starts and continues when a video camera is pointed at its own playback video monitor. The loop delay from camera to display back to camera is at least one video frame time, due to the input and output scanning processes; it can be more if there is more processing in the loop."

Pulp Fiction Gets Bass House Treatment from producer Levi Double U

Denver-based DJ and producer Levi Double U was barely over a year old when the cult classic Pulp Fiction debuted at Cannes Film Festival in May of 1994. Before Samuel L. Jackson played Marvel’s Nick Fury, he was the smooth-talking, Bible-quoting, bad mother fucker Jules Winnfield of Inglewood, California. The infamous apartment scene with Jules and Vincent Vega remains one of Levi Double U’s favorite movie scenes, and serves as the inspiration for his new song and video “Say What”.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Pulp Fiction, Levi put his own spin on the Pulp Fiction scene, creating a hyped-up bass house track with pieces of the Jules Winnfield “Say what again” monologue.

The “Say What” video features many of Levi Double U’s favorite scenes from the film, while keeping pace with the driving house beat and reminding everyone that Marcellus Wallace does not look like a bitch.

First Look: The Simple Parade - "Going Through Something"

We have the pleasure of sharing the exclusive premiere of the video for “Going Through Something” from The Simple Parade. The band was able to share some thoughts on the song and vision for the video, as well as what’s coming up for the band in 2019.

This song came out a very physically and emotionally exhausting part of my life. After years of struggling with severe heath issues, it all came to a head with one very impactful and jarring health scare that nearly took my life. After this unnerving wake up call, I decided that I was going to start being more honest with people about how I was actually doing. I began to have very real conversations with people (usually over coffee), and I found that when I was vulnerable about my struggles, others started opening up to me about there struggles as well. This song is a collection of some of the stories I heard in my journey (I changed the names, of course), and a realization that we are all going through something, and that there is no need for us to feel alone here. It has been my experience that peace comes in two phases. First, we need to be open about our struggle and let people into our story. Second, we need to be advocates for each other and help each other in our struggles. If anything, I pray this song gives people permission to he honest and hope in the community that surrounds them. A big ask, I know, but why not put something good out there and hope that it helps make life a little better!

When asked about how the idea for the various locations of the video came about.

The idea was to film us playing the song in various locations where people were, well, going through something (aka everywhere!). The concept of incorporating the mailbox for people to write out what they were going through was our videographers idea (well done Mikey!), and I think it really helped bring the whole theme of the song together in a tangible and poetic way.

We filmed this video in various locations throughout the Denver Area (chapels, theaters, downtown, coffeeshops, hospitals, etc) over the course of a full year (hence the various beard lengths:) ), and although it was definitely a labor of love we are very encouraged to see how it turned out!

The band has some big things in store for early 2019 that will aim to reach out to those who share the crazy up’s and down’s of everyday life.

This song "Going Through Something" is a single that will be on our second album "Seeker" that will be released in early 2019. Since the release of our first album "A Love Story" (that we recorded back in CA and released in 2016), we had actually put The Simple Parade on the back-burner. However, we are very excited about this new album and feel like it could be a true encouragement to people who are wrestling with doubt and faith in this crazy life journey. With that, we are hoping to start playing more shows in the Denver area, so check our website to see when/where we are playing next.

First Look: David Burchfield & The Fire Guild "State To State"

We have the first look at the new video from David Burchfield & The Fire Guild. The video is called "State to State", the catchy number will make you want to grab your partner and dance the night away. The song conjours up a plethora of genres including americana, folk, with a hint of country. You can see David Burchfield & The Fire Guild this weekend at the Underground Music Festival. The band will be closing out the Banded Oak Brewing stage from 11 pm to midnight.

SXSW 2018: Ready Player One Invades Austin

This year we headed out to Austin a few days earlier than usual in hopes of catching the Ready Player One experience that was setup for fans. The on-site activation featured many interactive experiences including Virtual VR (of course), replica sets from the movie spread out through out a vast warehouse space, a computer station in which one could create their own avatar, a pop-up shop by Hot Topic with some merchandise and collectibles from the show and much more. We arrived just as the cat of the movie was finishing up a panel hosted by IMDB. The High Five (the first OASIS users to get on the Hunt’s scoreboard) as their know in the movie answered questions about their role in the Steven Spielberg film. The experience featured free cocktails and an impressive 80's soundtrack blaring from the speakers as fans of the movie mingled around.

Much to our own surprise it was announced that the movie itself was going to make its world premiere later on that night. Of course we had to figure out a way to get tickets ourselves (just like the characters in the movie in search of the three keys). We managed to wait in line for almost three hours in hope of securing a spot, as the theatre began to fill up our hopes looked like it was game over for us. Luckily as we walked away we managed to secure two tickets (which in turn were the very last two) and in we made ourselves inside. You could feel a buzz in the theatre as the cast of the film was in attendance as was author of the book and Austin resident Ernest Cline. most importantly the man himself Mr. Steven Spielberg was on hand to give us his masterpiece. We won't give any spoilers but we will say the movie is amazing and in typical Spielberg fashion one you do not want to miss. It gave us the same chilling feelings as movies such as E.T. and Jurassic Park from the past. The film is scheduled to come out later this week on March 29th. Get ready for a wild ride!
