Hometown Boys 3OH3! Kickoff Summer With A High Energy Red Rocks Show

With capacity allowing almost all concertgoers now at Red Rocks it was only right to have hometown boys 3OH3! get things started. The raucous duo of Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte have been making the rounds as this electronic outfit for years and have still shown that they know how to throw a party. Those in attendance danced and even got a chance to sample some newer material the band has been cooking up, we can’t wait to hear more.

Red Rocks season is back! With restrictions beginning to loosen up it was only right for DJ, producer, director, extrordianaire Diplo to grace us with his amazing skills. We had a chance to cover the second night of his sold out stint at the majestic venue. In typical Diplo fashion he had those in the limited attendance dancing away. A makeshift vaccination clinic was also being offered to concertgoers as a way to help boost immunity from the virus that has kept us all at bay for the latter part of the year. A fun incentive for those attending.

Diplo has been entertaining the masses for years and his unique style of blending non-traditional genres from across the world into chart topping hits is his forte. Those in attendance got a glimpse of one of the best.

Anderson .Paak Delivers the Show Of The Year (so far...)

We have reached the almost mid-way part of the year, and usually about this time we get to witness a show that is deemed as an early front-runner for show of the year. Friday night Anderson . Paak may have easily won that honor. The Best Teef In The Game Tour as it is aptly titled stormed into Red Rocks on Friday night. Getting the evening started was Colorado favorite Thundercat who ripped through baselines like a bat out of hell. Next up was Earl Sweatshirt who’s lyrical prowess was appreciated by all.

The stage was set for .Paak as a silhouette emerged behind a LED box with only him and a drum set barely visible as the flames that adorned the stage lit up as he slowly rose up and appeared above above the stage. Flanked by his amazing band The Free Nationals the California native ripped through his extensive catalog of hits from all four of his albums (aptly named for California cities). Crowd favorites included “Come Down”, “Glowed Up” (Kaytranada Cover), “Bubblin”, “Come Home”. Yielding his biggest production to date, .Paak showed all 9,000 plus in attendance why he sone of the most versatile performers in the business. He showcased his drumming skills on a few of the songs and left a lasting impression with a tasteful tribute to the late Mac Miller to end his set. All in all the buzz after the show was felt with a positive vibe knowing that we had just witnessed a show for the ages.

SETLIST: Heart Don’t stand A Chance | Saviers Road | Come Down | Tints | King James | 6 Summers | Glowed Up (Kaytranada Cover ) | Smile | Reachin’ 2 Much | Time | Make It Better | Put Me Thru | Anywhere | Might Be | Trippy | The Waters | Jet Black | Suede | Bubblin’ | Milk n’ Honey | Come Home | ENCORE: Am I Wrong | Lite Weight | Dang (Mac Miller Cover)

Rainbow Kitten Surprise Impress With Red Rocks Performance

Indie rock ambassadors Rainbow Kitten Surprise made a stop at Red Rocks to a packed house on Monday evening. We fell in love with the band the last two times they came out to the Mile High and what better way to welcome them back than have them at the musical magic kingdom known as Red Rocks. Those who couldn’t score a coveted ticket were still able to catch the performance live via Facebook and YouTube (something we wish more bands would do). Their performance was nothing short of brilliant as frontman Sam Melo directed the pace of the night. The band is well known for their amazing live sets and Monday was no different as the band fed of each others energy to put on one of the better sets we have seen this year. Favorites included “Cocaine Jesus”, “Devil Like Me”, as well as an impressive opening cover of The Eagles “Take It Easy” who were joined by opening act Caamp. Speaking of Caamp they managed to get the party started right with an impressive set fueling the crowd for the headliners. We can see a headlining set for the band in the future judged by this performance. All in all a great night of music under the rocks.

Interpol Shines In Their Red Rocks Debut

Cold and frigid conditions didn’t stop Interpol in their Red Rocks debut. (Photo Credit: Robert Castro)

New York mainstays Interpol made their Red Rocks debut this past Wednesday under chilly and frigid conditions. The band has maintained staying power over the years with their unique sound often compared to the likes of Joy Division and the post-punk revival era of the 2000’s. With a new EP on the horizon the band extended into their vast catalog to play a mix of old and new classics. Their latest album Marauder gives us the customary sound we have come to adore from the band, not changing the recipe to their early success. Opening with “Pioneer To The Falls” the band settled in for a night in which temperatures dipped into the low 30’s. Crowd favorites included early hits such as “C’mere”, “PDA”, and “NYC”. We did get a glimpse of their upcoming EP A Fine Mess with the single under the same name. The four piece group maintained a rather low-key attitude, but still reveled in awe of the majestic venue. It’s hard to believe that this was the first time the band had played here. Here’s hoping that we get to see them again soon. The night played out like a mini indie festival as Sunflower Bean, Japanese Breakfast and Car Seat Headrest all played terrific sets even during the downpour that has become customary for late April and early May shows Red Rocks.

SETLIST: Pioneer To The Falls | C’mere | If You Really Love Nothing | Public Pervert | PDA | Complications | Say Hello To The Angels | NYC | Take You On A Cruise | The Rover | Rest My Chemistry | Evil | Fine Mess | Leif Erikson | All The Rage Back Home | The New | Slow Hands | ENCORE: Obstacle 1
