This past Saturday we celebrated covering our tenth Westword Music Showcase and once again we had an amazing day celebrating some of the best national and local music right in the heart of The Golden Triangle. While the main stages were buzzing with some of the best national acts it was the neighborhood venues that provided for some of the best action of the day.

Roaming the streets of Broadway and Lincoln, we had a chance to take in amazing sets from The Hollow, Kayla Marque, The Velveteers, iZCALLI, Chella and The Charm, Lady Gang, The Corner Girls, Grayson County Burn Band, Florea, Blake Brown & The American Dust Choir, RL Cole & The Hell You Say and more. The main stages had us reeling with amazing sets from locals Wildermiss whose Hometown for The Holidays win gave them a chance to play main stage as has been the norm the past few years. Other notable sets came from Sunflower Bean, St. Lucia, Bonobo and Galantis who need the night.

The one day festival has continued to succeed by sticking to a simple formula and that is to provide some of the best Denver local acts along with some of the buzz bands on the national scene to provide a day full of musical bliss.

303 LIVE Summer Series Set To Return This Week

One of the great things about living in this city is the amount of live music events that help promote our growing music and art community. Our friend Christina Lundell is heading up an amazing venture that is helping the thriving scene thanks in part to this amazing series that kicks off it's Summer Series edition later this week.

In a monthly installment, 303 Live has announced their second event which will be held at Fice Gallery on Thursday, July 27th from 7:00 pm- 11:00 pm. With talent brimming at the seams in Denver, Colorado, 303 Live's mission is to support the local music and art community.

The nature of this showcase is to promote all things creative, local and non-profit based. "My goal for this is to highlight the culture that has always been here, while bridging the gap of all things new in this town," says Christina Lundell, Founder.

"We see the changes taking place daily, so I want to show that there is so much more than what's on the surface. I've been in the music scene here since I was 16 years old, hanging out at the Marquis Theater every weekend throughout my youth (sorry mom), so it only made sense for me to expose the true creative pulse of Denver."

The first installment was on May 16th at Mile High Spirits which included acts such as Motion Trap, YaSi and CRL CRRLL. On July 27th at Fice Gallery, the lineup consists of Wushu, Habs, Kayla Marque, Secs Peterson and Joseph A.M. There will be live art from MayG and other local artists, all you can eat and drink and ways to check out local brands. Music | Local Music Spotlight: Kayla Marque

From time to time we come across a precious gem in our fair city. For Kayla Marque, singer-songwriter, we have come across a talented individual that truly captures her emotions via her music. We have been following Kayla for awhile, from an accomplished lead singer to her recent ventures into the singer-songwriter world. She captures the essence of heartbreak, joy and everyday raw emotions across carefully crafted lyrics that translate into perfect ballads. They say music is contagious and Marque has surrounded herself with some of the best local talent in the city with Sur Ellz, Kid Astronaut (Jon Shockness/Air Dubai) and more to aid in production and guest appearances. This is only the beginning for Marque and we expect the city to start taking notice if they haven't. She is currently in the studio finishing up her album "Live and Die Like This". You can find her on Soundcloud and also a few upcoming shows in December. Be sure to check her out.
