Big Gigantic Announces Rowdy Town VI Lineup

Big Gigantic has announced the full lineup for their sixth annual Rowdytown concert, held at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 29th & 30th in Morrison, Colorado. Big G's two- night headline performance will be supported by Keys N Krates, Slushii and Pell on the 29th, and by Big Wild, Whethan and Maddy O'Neal on the 30th. Tickets are going fast, a limited amount are still available here with lower service fees for single day, 2-day GA or 2-day VIP tickets. $1 from every ticket sold will go towards A Big Gigantic Difference Foundation's 2017 charity project. The announcement comes with a new remix of Big Gigantic's hit song "All Of Me" featuring Logic & ROZES. The original has earned over 30 million plays, and now Australian producer Naderi puts his own touch on the track with his signature bright synths and sparkling melodies.

VIP packages for Rowdytown VI are available and include early access to the venue, access to a VIP viewing area, a meet and greet with Dominic and Jeremy from Big Gigantic, a signed Rowdytown VI poster, a commemorative laminate and a special Rowdytown VI merch package.

Snowball Final Lineup and News

Today, the third annual SnowBall Music Festival makes its final artist lineup announcements. Flying Lotus, Delta Spirit, Krewella, Japandroids, Polica and Tennis are among the nearly 30 acts added to the bill with today’s announcement. They join previously announced Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, Kendrick Lamar, Portugal. The Man, STS9, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, and many more. In its first two years, the Colorado-based SnowBall Music Festival established a reputation as one of America's most unique and exciting events. A music festival and ski/snowboard weekend rolled into one, SnowBall is the ultimate winter getaway for music fans, tastemakers and adventure-seekers, who'll converge on the majestic mountain paradise of Winter Park, Colorado on March 8-10, 2013 to absorb SnowBall's visionary marriage of music and mountains.

In addition to three great days of music, those attending the festival will have an opportunity to hit the slopes at Winter Park Resort - dubbed "Colorado's Favorite”™ for the natural majesty of its setting, its laid-back resort atmosphere and its stellar skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. Winter Park Resort, which includes Mary Jane Mountain, averages over 321 inches of snow each year and features over 3000-acres of skiable terrain to enjoy. SnowBall 2013 attendees will also have access to a special discounted ski lift ticket, courtesy of Winter Park Resort, packaged with their event ticket and lodging.

The move to Winter Park isn't the only exciting new change in store for this year's SnowBall. Big Gigantic | Rowdytown | Red Rocks Amphitheatre | September 29

Dubbed simply as “Rowdytown”, Red Rocks Amphitheatre played host to a slew of talented musicians on Saturday night. Headlined by the duo from Boulder known as Big Gigantic, the night was full of dancing, raging, perputual drug use (I’m assuming, of course) and all out partying. This was our last show of the season at Red Rocks and what a way to go out. The night got started by strong DJ sets from ​Raw Russ, followed by the talented Griz. Next up was a DJ who has been tearing up the blogosphere and DJ circuit. In fact this dude probably has the best biography on Facebook one could ever ask for:

With that being said, he managed to play one of the stronger DJ sets I have seen all year. With no light-show or elaborate production, he got right down to business and hit us with an assortment of genre-bending remixes and masterful beats of all kinds. If you get a chance please make sure you catch the dapper Mr. Francis if he makes a stop in your town. Also hitting the stage was Colorado favorites, hailing from The Emerald City of Seattle, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. For some reason Coloradoans have adopted Macklemore as one of their own,  it was apparent this past summer during the Westword Showcase and Saturday night as well. The underground hip hop duo graced us with dance friendly numbers and energy that only fed the crowd for the nights headliners.

The night though truly belonged to Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken. With their customary beehive stage setup it was clear who the sold out crowd came to see. To enhance the listening experience they managed to do something never done before at Red Rocks. They lit up “Creation Rock”, and “Ship Rock” with full on projection mapping courtesy off Ghost Pixel. It was truly something to see these enormous rocks changing with visuals that complimented the “livetronica” sound. At one point an image of the Colorado state flag adorned the rocks driving the masses in to all out hysteria. Big Gigantic continues to grow right in front of our eyes. With an upcoming tour and performance at Austin City Limits next week, the duo will bring their Uprising Tour all across the states. 

Big Gigantic at The Ogden: 1/21: Review

The Bee Hive

Denver was alive and well Saturday night as Boulder native Big Gigantic rolled into the Ogden Theatre. It has been a while since Colorado fans have seen the fast-growing duo of Dominic Lalli (producer/sax) and Jeremy Salken (drums). The show in Denver wrapped up a mini Colorado tour for the group as they hit Aspen, Boulder, and Fort Collins before joining us. Selling out every show on the list, it was apparent that the Colorado fans where in dire need of some Big Gigantic love.

Opening the night was another local, Fisk, who has been making a name in the Boulder scene over the last couple of years. Rocking an Elm & Oak shirt, he played some dirty bass that got the crowd moving almost immediately. Remixing the likes of Sublime’ s “Santeria” and “Play that Funky Music” Fisk kept the hard hitting bass going for an hour before handing off to GRiZ.

Joining us from a little town called Detroit, GRiZ didn’t let people relax as he immediately went into some unique, big-jazz band dubstep remixes. GRiZ kept his set list rather varied in terms of beat, tempo and pace. Based off the vibe of the crowd, it seemed that he did a better job with the faster stuff. The crowd pleaser came when he sampled Kayne’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’”. This got the most hands up in the air and set the crowd back on the right track for the headliner of the evening.

Big Gigantic rocks The Ogden crowdA quick word about Big Gigantic’s new stage setup. If you haven’t seen the video from their New Year’s Eve show in Chicago (where they first showcased the new stage) you should check it out. It could be best described as two bee hives split down the middle. Both Dominic and Jeremy had their own bee hive, inhabiting the middle. The hives themselves were covered in three-pane LED boards that added to the ambiance. I am seeing more and more producers and artists building elaborate stages these days and I, for one, am a big fan of this as it provides variety and adds an almost synesthetic element to the show, you get both the audio and visual. I also enjoyed that it was the first time in a while that the Ogden felt like a completely different venue. It was as though the entire crowd was transported to Big Gigantic’s world, which is probably what they intended for. The other time I have seen this happen was during the Crystal Castles’ show when the entire place, literally the entire place, was filled with fog and you couldn’t see the stage, let alone the group.

I feel that Big Gigantic has gained such momentum and popularity through 2011 not only because of the extensive touring, but the unique sound they produce. The saxophone is, to me, one of the most distinct aspects of Big Gigantic’s music since it adds a more organic and personal feeling to a genre that is almost exclusively artificial.  Watching Dominic put everything he has into that saxophone shows true love for what he does. Big Gigantic spent the first part of the show playing a repertoire of songs from their older albums, adding new twists and layers to them. Playing songs like “Solitude” and “Sky High” from the previous album quickly reminded the crowd why they loved Big Gigantic. Songs later in the set came from the new album, including “Heavyweight Champ”, “The Uprising”, and the album’s namesake, “Nocturnal”, kept the crowd excited for the guys’ next evolution. Playing over a solid 2+ hours, Big Gigantic showed just how amazing Colorado is and the talent that this state continues to produce.
