This past Sunday night Fiddler's Green played host to The Rage and Rapture Tour featuring 70's-80's New Wave pioneers Blondie and 90's Alternative darlings Garbage. A pretty awesome bill featuring two of the most prominent lead front-woman of all time. The two iconic stars have been instrumental in providing a musical landscape for us for many years now. From the cavernous catacombs of CBGB Blondie and company got their famed start with a new wave sound not often heard at the punk rock venue before the 80's. It was there were they honed their craft and her unique style often brought her songs to life on a live stage with a sense of grittiness and confidence.

For Blondie, who is now 72 years old, she continues to provide that same flamboyant stage presence today. Decked out in a black coat and bumblebees on her head, Debbie Harry let us know she wasn't to thrilled with the costume, after all we've all known her from the ripped t-shirt and holes in the jeans attire from the early 80's. On the heels of a new album Pollinator, it was a chance to listen to new music and also remind us of all the hits that have influenced the current album. Classics like "Call Me", "Heart of Glass", "Rapture", and "Dreaming" still resonate the same raspiness and danceable feel today as they did back then. Newer songs like "Long Time" provide from the original recipe with an updated dance appeal for todays generation.
Getting things started was one of the most influential commercially successful alternative bands of the 90's Garbage. Fronted by the red headed fiery Shirley Manson, the group has long established a foundation for an array of hits that got us by the 90's generation of music. With over 17 million albums sold throughout their career it was a chance for us to relive our days of 90's alternative with hits such as "Stupid Girl", "Push It", "#1 Crush", and "Special" who was dedicated to a member of an audience who Manson saw holding a sign exclaiming Girl Power! Manson went on to dedicate the song to the girl explaining the importance of woman's rights and equality that resonated with everybody in the audience! The band has been around for 22 years now with it's original core (unheard of nowadays). Here's hoping the band continue to make amazing music down the road.
