Suki Waterhouse Sparkles at Mission Ballroom

There’s a certain effortlessness about Suki Waterhouse’s presence that we can’t quite put our finger on. Gliding on stage at Mission Ballroom in a svelte pair of slacks, flowing pastel pink top and black coat. She grooved fluidly and lit up the room with her signature style while the crowd, a sparkling mass of sequined get-ups, copied Suki’s moves in loving admiration as she performed the Denver leg of her Sparklemuffin Tour.

Her set came after a heartwarming performance by opener Debbii Dawson, showcasing her brand new EP titled “How To Be Human”. Dawson’s music blends pop, folk and country for a unique sound that accompanies her delicate vocals. Her glowing, bubbly personality was reminiscent of country greats like Dolly Parton, and her stripped back performance at Mission Ballroom was the perfect lead-in to Suki Waterhouse. After giving the audience a good laugh and impressing us with her high-notes Dawson said,

“Are you all ready for Suki Waterhouse?!” To which the crowd erupted in cheers.

And from the moment Waterhouse stepped out till the end of the show she was electric, singing songs like her viral hit “Good Looking” and more upbeat songs like “OMG”. The stage was a beautiful scene decorated with florals, greenery and disco balls as if it were a dancehall in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the atmosphere was eclectic and vibey, dragging out the last of this year’s carefree summer nights before autumn’s arrival.

But her set wasn’t just a casual, airy night. Sprinkled in with the sparkles were moments of genuine authenticity and a call to embrace love, positivity and the belief that the universe conspires in our favor. Between performances, Waterhouse took moments to share the significance behind her songs and spoke on how lucky she felt to be performing in Denver, doting on the state’s natural beauty. And her performance of “To Love”, a song about the profound coincidences that lead us to meeting the significant people in our lives was a snapshot from a beautiful show as people slowly waved their hands in the air in resonance.

Other songs like Waterhouse’s rendition of Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger” further reiterated the singer’s message of gratuity and maintaining a positive outlook on life. And as the sparkling showcase came to an end, people were overwhelmed with a sense of love and joy for the beauty that surrounds us and the ability to enjoy a night playing dress-up and dancing freely with some good pals.
