Glowing House | The Down and Out EP | Review

Different from their previous album, Glowing House’s new EP The Down and Out, releasing in April, adds a more up-beat tempo, something to dance to. We are still impressed with the lyrics and soothing vocals of the husband-and-wife duo, Steve Varney and Jess Parsons. Polished and excited to try new things, another success story will soon come out of Denver. The previous album, Days Run Out, made me want to curl up with a cup of coffee and snuggle with my special someone and this album makes me want to drive through the mountains with my volume on high. “The Down and Out”, the first track on the EP, is a radio-friendly song that could take this band to the next level. Their mature lyrics and eloquent analogies shows the progress and dedication of this band.

There is immeasurable passion behind songs like “Motorcade” with shouting vocals and strong lyrics: 

“My, my what a mess i’ve made. 

Lock me up in the back of a motorcade. 

When the road runs out of sight, 

let me out and i’ll give it another try.”

“Nobody Follow Me” is another strong track on the album while “Much Too Much” is more airy and soothing. Steve and Jess slow things down on the track “When The World Stands You Up” focusing on the strength of their pairing vocals.

This is an impressive EP and we are so excited for this talented band. Though the indie-folk scene is “in” right now, Glowing House has been making this sweet music for years now and is a more polished version of what we are hearing on the radio. With a unique style and passion, we are certain you will fall for this album just in time for the “windows down” kind of weather in April.
