The Honda Civic Tour made a stop in suburbia Denver on Thursday evening bringing its traveling road show to the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre (still the strangest named venue I have ever heard.). The annual tour has been going strong since 2001 and has brought us headliners such as the Black Eyed Peas, blink-182, Dashboard Confessional, and many other hard-rocking artists. This year was no different as we got the privilege to catch three amazing acts.
First up on the bill was Mutemath, who still has fans buzzing about their last show earlier this year at the Gothic Theatre; they played a short five song set to a nearly empty venue. Not to worry, they will be coming back to Colorado Springs on September 15th at The Black Sheep.
Setlist: Sun Ray | Blood Press | Prytania | Spotlight | Reset
As the crowd settled in and got comfortable, one of the true pioneers of the alternative metal scene hit the stage. Incubus has been a mainstay amongst its fans for quite sometime now and with a slew of hit records and catchy singles, Brandon Boyd and company continue to wow the crowd year after year. They played all of their popular songs saving their best for "Drive," "Nice To Know You," and "Promises, Promises," all prompting a full on sing-a-long.
Setlist: Adolescents | Nice To Know You | Privilege | Megalomaniac | Circles | If Not Now, When? | Made For TV Movie | Anna Molly | A Kiss To Send Us Off | Promises, Promises | Drive | The Warmth | Pardon Me | Rebel Girls | Sick Sad Little World | Tomorrow's Food
Next up was headliners Linkin Park. Now, I will admit there was a time where I did get caught up in all the LP hype, mostly attributed to the mash-up success of working with Jay-Z. I had never seen them live, but had heard that they indeed put on a show worth the price of admission. The stage setup was clearly an indicator of the massive production they incorporate into their live shows with ramps and elevated platforms. They kicked off with "Tinfoil" immediately going into one of there strongest hits "Faint" right off the bat. With the duo of Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington exchanging lyrical barbs back in forth, we witnessed an energetic set that lasted almost two hours spanning twenty-one songs. We saw a music video come to life with showering sparks and raging pyro flames during the set and bringing out the talented Mike Einziger of Incubus for the finale of "Bleed It Out".
Setlist: Tinfoil | Faint | Papercut | Given Up | With You | Somewhere I Belong | In My Remains | New Divide | Victimized | Points of Authority | Lies Greed Misery | Waiting for the End | Breaking The Habit | Leave Out All The Rest //Shadow of The Day // Iridescent | The Catalyst | Lost In The Echo | Numb | What I've Done | One Step Closer | Encore: Burn It Down | In The End | Bleed It Out
