Bon Iver at Red Rocks

The show far succeeded any expectation that I had and then some. I was expecting to be sung to sleep, wondering how I'd drive tirelessly back to Denver. I was expecting a very low energy, quiet, and calm evening underneath the open sky but the beating of the two drum kits shook my soul and shifted the stars. It was everything from the atmosphere, the stage set, the light show, and the nine-piece harmonious band paired with the soothing vocals of Justin Vernon, made for an incredible Thursday evening at Red Rocks.

Sharon Von Etten
I first heard about Sharon Van Etten from our good friend Joel over at ultra8201. We did not get to see her during our trip to SXSW where she created quite the buzz. I started doing more research and found out she has worked with some indie heavyweights including Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and The National. This night she had family in attendance and although she was noticeably a little nervous, her style shone through. It is a result of beautiful carefully crafted songwriting that translates into an emotional performance leaving you wanting to hear more and more. She seemed to have everybody's attention this night as she tore through a set consisting of songs from Because I Was In Love and Epic. Make sure you check out Sharon as she makes her way up the east coast including stops at Sasquatch and Bonnaroo.
