Hailing from England the indie quartet of Alt-J ∆ graced us with their presence last Thursday at the sold-out Fillmore Auditorium. Currently riding the success of their 2012 debut album An Awesome Wave, the band is in the midst of their current US tour.
The bands popularity in the states can be attributed to their unique sound of layered synths, distorted guitars, dub infused dance and folk influenced lyrics. Quite a pill to swallow if you ask me, but lead singer Jon Newman along with his trademark falsetto and the rest of the bands harmonizing vocals seem to pull it off without a hitch.
The setting was simple, a rather spacious stage flanked by only the glowing LED and strobes that radiated silhouettes of the band throughout the night. They gave the crowd familiar favorites such as "Matilda," "Breezeblocks," and "Tesselate". Other notable sing-alongs were the glitchy, dub, indecipherable lyrics of "Fitzpleasure" to the dance friendly "Dissolve Me".
Opening the festivities was Denver favorites Lord Huron, who have made their mark here in our fair city, most recently with their set at this years The UMS. It was quite evident that they have won some folks over as many in attendance where just as excited to see them than the headliners.
