Eldren and Friends Invite You To: Come On Feel The Illinoise: May 9th at The Gothic Theatre

Denver-based collective Eldren returns to the stage with an ambitious, deeply personal live project: a full reinterpretation of Illinois by Sufjan Stevens, performed in its entirety on May 9 at the Gothic Theatre. TICKETS HERE!

Once a staple of the Denver music scene, Eldren built its reputation on immersive, large-scale performances, appearing on some of Colorado’s most respected stages—including the Bluebird TheaterOgden TheatreOriental TheaterLevitt Pavilion Denver, and Belly Up Aspen—along with a plethora of other notable venues throughout the state and, as the band jokingly puts it, the universe.

During their most active years, Eldren shared stages with an eclectic and influential range of artists, including OK GoThe Black AngelsWeenCakeCold War KidsGomezKishi BashiCaroline RoseDr. DogWeezerPortugal. The ManBeach HouseSTRFKRBlack Moth Super RainbowGuided by Voices, and many more—experiences that helped shape the band’s expansive approach to live performance.

After stepping away in 2020, Eldren’s members remained deeply embedded in the music world, continuing to perform, tour, produce, and collaborate across both the local and national scenes. Now, nearly seven years removed from their most visible chapter, the band re-emerges with a renewed sense of intention and a singular artistic goal.

For this one-night performance, Eldren is assembling an ensemble of approximately 16–20 Denver-based musicians, transforming the stage into a communal celebration of one of indie music’s most ambitious records. The lineup includes (but is not limited to) Mason Shelmire, Carl Sorenson, Cassidy Bacon, Ishka Bee, Aubrey Hammerick, Fab Folz, Erik Estrada, Joe Engel, April Maple, Anna Luna, Ian Short, Adrianne Short, Jesse Parmet, Cooper Long—alongside Eldren founders Tyler Imbrogno and Nasir Malik.

The decision to perform Illinois is deeply personal. The album served as a foundational influence on the musical relationship between Malik and Imbrogno, shaping their shared language around orchestration, narrative songwriting, and emotional vulnerability. Rather than a tribute act, Eldren’s performance functions as a reverent re-approach—honoring the spirit and scope of the record while channeling it through the voices, textures, and community of Denver’s current music ecosystem.

As rehearsals begin, Eldren embarks on the meticulous process of learning and reassembling Illinois’ dense and eclectic arrangements—brass, strings, choirs, and intimate moments alike—marking not just a return to the stage, but a redefinition of what the band can be.

This performance stands as both a homecoming and a statement: a collective act of love for a record that changed lives, and a reminder of the collaborative power that has always defined Denver’s music scene
