Our favorite musical group hailing from Glasgow paid us a visit this past Thursday night at a sold out Ogden Theatre. CHVRCHES gave the crowd a good hour and a half performance (the set seemed short, probably due to the fact that they only have one album so far), nonetheless they managed to entertain from the beginning note to the last riff. Lauren Mayberry, lead singer commanded the stage flanked by an array of flashing lights and strobes often leaving us catching only a glimpse of her silhouette. Her small stature does not reflect the amazing vocals that transform into the bands live sound. The combination of Iain Cook and Martin Doherty round out the rest of the band. The combination of pulsating synths and flailing guitar riffs give the band their unique electro-pop sound.

The band played through a rather mellow first half of the set leading to a huge finish with crowd sing a longs of "Recover", "Tether", and "Mother We Share", before breaking before their encore. They often joked between songs touching on everything from The Jonas Brothers fur shop on Broadway, the smell of weed (as compared to California), to random audience members wearing crazy t-shirts. We first saw the band two years ago at SXSW and they are definitely on their way to big things, they will continue their US tour through the end of June with a performance at Bonnaroo before heading back overseas to play a slew of festivals.
