The global event made its U.S. debut in 2002 at Empower Field at Mile High and returned for a second stint in 2008 at Red Rocks.

"Denver is a city of dreamers - people who aren’t afraid to take a chance, think big, and build something new. That’s exactly why the Red Bull Soapbox Race is a perfect fit for our community," said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. "I can’t wait to see Denver’s creativity on full display at Empower Field at Mile High. And who knows, maybe you’ll even spot me out there in a soapbox.”
The Denver competition will host teams of up to five people racing unique, non-motorized soapbox derby cars through curves, steps and obstacles. Not only will participants need to prove their driving skills, but they’ll also need to showcase their creativity and showmanship by dressing up in costumes and performing a dance or skit before descending the course.
