Happy 303 Day!

The State of Colorado has become a recent hotbed for an amazing music scene. One of the lucky things we get to do around here is listen to many of the amazing bands that claim the 303 area code. From festivals like the Underground Music Showcase to the Westword Music Showcase, Denver bands are becoming everyday names all over the country. In celebration of "303 Day" we decided to share some of our favorite 303 artist in this awesome playlist. Give it a listen and be sure to go out and support local music today. Here are some photos of many of the local artist we have gotten a chance to cover over the years by our own Robert Castro.

Brent Cowles Is At It Again With New Single "Cold Times"

Do not let the 75 degree fall days fool you, Denver. The Cold Times are coming - and luckily for you they have arrived early in the form of beautiful, twangy drawls from Denver’s sweetheart, Brent Cowles.

Cowles ventured out into the solo-sphere in early 2015 after recent split from Fort Collins band, You Me and Apollo. He has since signed with our favorite burrito mongols’ record label, Greater Than Collective. With an easily identifiable voice and style, Cowles is making waves in the Colorado music scene and his latest debut is the fruition of hard work, perseverance and good ol’ American rock.

Cold Times highlights Cowles' signature poetic lyrics with a rhythmic, soulful bass line. It’s a foot stomping, beer drinking anthem that is sure to persevere long after the cold months have passed us by.

Hard to compare, Cowles is humble, honest, talented and on the fast track to becoming one of those artists we all brag about seeing at the Hi Dive on a random Tuesday night.

The Best Images Of The Westword Music Showcase 2016

This year's Westword Music Showcase brought out the big guns to headline their main stages. Not only were the two main stages packed all day with amazing bands, but the other venues in The Golden Triangle played hosts to some of Denver's best acts. Despite a mid-day power outage (rumors from thunder to Donald Trump setting it off) were rampant, not to fear as the bands took it to the streets and many improvised with acoustic sets. With record breaking attendance and music to satisfy every genre the Golden Triangle epicenter was bustling with music lovers. A sectioned off VIP area played refuge from the mild heat and brief showers. Headliners such as Black Pistol Fire, Cold War Kids and Dillon Francis gave the audience mesmerizing sets while locals such as 888, Brent Cowles, Eldren, One Flew West and more played to their own audiences at the various indoor venues spread out across Broadway. Luckily we had a slew of Ultra5280 shutterbugs covering ground to take these amazing photos. (Photo Credits: Robert Castro, Matt Smith, Andrew Rios and Amber Kaye)
