Music | Red Bull Sound Select Denver Presents: Twin Peaks, Ned Garthe Explosion and Plum | May 14, 2015 | Hi-Dive

Another edition of the Red Bull Sound Select concert series is about to take place this coming Thursday at the Hi-Dive with an awesome trio of bands including Twin Peaks and local favorites Ned Garthe Explosion and Plum. We know what you are asking how do I get tickets to such a prestigious event? Will it's pretty simple all you have to do is RSVP HERE and it will only cost you a whopping 3 bucks. We had a chance to chat it up with the members of Plum recently and get their take on influences and what the band has in store for the coming months.

Plum

U5280: You describe your sound as psychedelic rock and roll. Who are some of your influences?

Plum: We take bits and pieces from the aesthetic of basically any band who falls under our definition of psychedelic or rock and roll, but along with that we take away some of the characteristics of the first wave of “Pop” music in the 60’s and 70’s.

U5280: Where did the name Plum come from?

Plum: We were struggling to come up with a name so we decided to take a trip together. We turned off all the lights and covered every crack in the room until we couldn’t tell if our eyes were opened or closed. We played our demos and it just seemed obvious.

U5280: You guys have currently been riding a wave with a rather short catalog, has that been a challenge and what should we expect on Thursday?

Plum: What we’ve released and our performances are two different things. Don’t be fooled by the pace of our releases, we’ve still got a lot up our sleeves.

U5280: You recently released “Behind Your Man” in March, what kind of response have you received from the single?

Plum: We had a great time cutting that number and still love playing it.  After we release something though, you have to let it go, let it carry it’s own weight from there. The second it’s out there; we’ve already begun on the next endeavor.

U5280: Describe your live show for anybody who hasn’t seen it?

Plum: We would prefer the audience to come to their own conclusion, rather than us setting parameters for the experience.

U5280: What is in store the rest of the year for Plum?

Plum: We don’t want to say too much and spoil any of it… expect big things.

U5280: If you had a chance to tour with any band (any generation) who would that be?

Plum: Stillwater.

Show Alert | Red Bull SoundSelect's Brownout do "Brown Sabbath" This Tuesday at Hi-Dive

You guys should realize by now just how much Ultra5280 loves Red Bull Sound Select. A beautiful, new-age platform where fans can collaborate on playlists, discover new artists, and get access to hundreds of super cheap - and sometimes even free - concerts a year? This program sits at the forefront of new-age music discovery, and we’ve loved taking advantage of Denver being chosen as one of the first markets for SoundSelect to call home over the last year. We’ve covered multiple SoundSelect shows over the last year, and featured SoundSelect artists like CRL CRRLL, In The Whale, and The Epilogues at numerous Ultra5280 events.

SoundSelect is continuing to work hard on the artist development portion of it’s program, helping bring young artists to new fans across the globe, and they’re kicking off year two in Denver by bringing Austin-based group Brownout to the Hi-Dive this coming Tuesday, February 24th. The group describes themselves as “hardcore Latin Funk”, and I’m really not sure what could be more tantalizing than hearing each those words used together to describe one single group. Supported by Denver SoundSelect artists The Yawpers and Dragondeer, Brownout Presents “Brown Sabbath”, the group’s re-imagined versions of Black Sabbath songs. SoundSelect events like this Tuesday’s show are open to the public, but members of the SoundSelect community get first dibs on discounted tickets, as well as fun bonus’ that come with each event. Fans who join the SoundSelect community before 9pm on Tuesday and RSVP to the event online will be eligible to get tickets to the show for a measly $3 dollars (no, we’re not kidding), while tickets without RSVP will be $15. In case you needed more of a reason to come, the first 50 fans through the door of the show that night will receive a free Illegal Pete’s burrito. Good music and delicious food - what more could you ask for?

This Tuesday’s show is the first of many amazing performances Denver will see from SoundSelect artists this year, and registering with the SoundSelect community is the easiest way to guarantee you don’t miss a minute of fun. Register online at www.redbullsoundselect.com/login, and while you’re there, be sure to RSVP for this week’s show. Hope to see you there - you know we’ll be getting down.

Friday Night Fun | Wild High Album Release feat. Turner Jackson

It's the Friday before Christmas and we are smack in the middle of Hanukkah. Even if you don't admit it, this time of year everyone can get a little overrun by the holiday spirit - sometimes you just need a break from the spiked egg nog and ugly sweater parties. If you're looking for a good excuse to get out of your holiday office party, or just looking for a fun way to spend one of the last Fridays of 2014, look no further than Wild High's release party tonight at the Larimer Lounge.

Local indie-psych rock band, Wild high, has had a huge year. After joining the Red Bull Sound Select roster wowing crowds with sets on the main stage at Denver's UMS, packing the stage at Denver Psych Fest, and performing a CPR Open Air studio session, the band refuses to end this pivotal year without a band. In fact, they are celebrating the end of the year with the highly anticipated release of their debut 10-track album SDREAMS.

If you're familiar with Ultra5280, the name Turner Jackson might be familiar. A Local hip-hop artist, and entertainer extraordinaire, Turner helped us get "turnt up" at our Ultraversary party this past April. Tonight he will be opening the show for Wild High, and taking this opportunity to debut his brand new live backing band, an exciting change to the rapper's already charismatic live show.

Tickets are an easy $10 at the door tonight, and this is a show you do not want to miss! Doors are at 8:00pm, the show at 9:00pm, and we hope to catch a few of you getting down tonight.
