Portugal. The Man | Larimer Lounge | August 20
The anticipated secret Portugal. The Man show took to the catacombs of the Larimer Lounge on Wednesday night to a well received audience. The secret show had the Denver music scene scouring all over for tickets to the once in a lifetime show, those lucky enough to purchase tickets a day before were treated to almost two hours of straight in the face indie groove rock. They opened with "Another Brick In The Wall/Purple, Yellow, Red & Blue" mashup that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the night.
The band seemed to be in good spirits often joking around and making it seem like it was one of those early shows in their careers that launched them into regular rotations on all our iPods. The highlight of the night could have easily been when lead singer John Gourley invited everybody on stage to finish off their last song and dance around passing around bottles of whiskey. The show was as advertised, intimate, fun, and unforgettable. Members of Grouplove were also in attendance holding down bartending duties during the night. You can see both bands tonight at Red Rocks for The Honda Civic Tour.
