LØLØ Reminds Austin that an All Girl Line Up is Always a Good Idea

LØLØ stopped at Antone’s in Austin, Texas last night with openers, Sydney Sherrill and Mylie Taylor.

During the COVID pandemic, LØLØ saw a Tiktok covering Hey There, Delilah by The Plain White T’s and decided to follow suit. Following popularity from that cover, she started doing the same for other songs and everything changed from then on.

Now currently touring the US and a sprinkle of Canada, LØLØ graced Austin with not only her presence but with an all-girl opening line up including Sydney Sherrill and Mylie Taylor. As soon as the set up for LØLØ’s stage was being done, I couldn’t help but notice the two crates placed on opposite sides of the stage. Everyone in the front row had attended the M&G earlier that day so I asked one of them what the crates were for, “Oh she gets on them” they said.

I knew I had to stay put for the best seat in the house.

Starting the set were songs such as ‘devil wears converse’, ‘pretty little wreck’, & ‘god forbid a girl spits out her feelings!’. A nostalgic sound that brings back any 90’s baby into the times of choosing your new Myspace layout, bling graphics and rearranging your top 8 to exclude your ex-boyfriend. LØLØ provides exactly the feeling one would seek when reminiscing on the early 2000’s. Pop punk is no stranger to this album but with that extra touch of femme LØLØ adds, it is a great album to listen to and even better live.

LØLØ’s set included a huge cheetah printed sign of her name as a backdrop with a robot propped nicely towards the back of the stage. This robot, a physical homage to her song, ‘wish i was a robot’ where she talks about a life where she was a robot without feelings of heartbreak or self-consciousness.

“I wish I was a robot
Cuz then I wouldn’t care
Could just call a mechanic when I need a repair
l’d be an easy fix”
— LØLØ

Throughout the show, the crowd was singing every lyric and bathing into the beautiful colors of pink and green. As a first timer inside this venue, I thought it was the perfect pick for LØLØ’s show. From merch tables at the entrance, a full bar, good A/C (which is so vital these days) and a sign language interpreter safely at the side of the stage, this performance provided everything you needed.

The crowd also was seen wearing similar attire to LØLØ’s outfit on stage. “A student with a lot to say”, it was like we were inside an actual school with how many people I saw wearing a similar uniform outfit. The environment further transported me back to those days of online chatting and hiding your phone under the desk during class.

The nostalgia is hard to beat after seeing LØLØ’s show and ’ll be chasing it until LØLØ makes her way back into Austin.
