The Belle Brigade is an LA based upbeat folk (is that a genre?) band. They will be gracing Denver tonight at Red Rocks Amphitheater with Ray La Montagne. This brother/sister duo puts the sibling rivalry behind them in order to create stunning lyrics and rhythms. We were excited to ask them a couple of questions and we'd love to share them with you.
So you guys have been on tour for awhile, what has been your favorite city and venue?
Playing at Massey Hall in Toronto was pretty amazing... We had a great day off in Knoxville TN and we always love going to Austin... Such a great town.
How has it been being on tour with Ray?
It's been so great! Ray is a great guy and he surrounds himself with such a great crew... We get taken care of so well and then we get to go play two sets of music... It's pretty dreamy! We feel very grateful to have this opportunity!
Do you guys still have some of that sibling rivalry when it comes to creating music or performing?
No. We understand the question because so many siblings fight and are constantly competing, but we really root for each other. We have so much respect for each other as musicians and as people which makes it easy to work together.
Fleetwood Mac influences were prevalent in your first album, but those ties have somewhat disappeared in your most recent record. What was the inspiration behind, Just Because?
The inspiration behind most of the songs came from experiences we had while touring the first record. Feelings of homesickness, loneliness, joy, excitement and fear... Everything you can imagine after a year and a half of touring. That's where a lot of the material came from... It terms of musical influences, we were listening to so much stuff in the van and I think a bunch of it just got mangled up in our heads to create whatever sound we got on this new record. We tried to open ourselves up to more sonic influences for this one. Peter Gabriel came up a lot in the studio and was a major influence when we were tracking...
There’s an unwritten rule that once you’ve played at Red Rocks, you’ve made it as a performer. Are you guys excited?
We've NEVER been more excited to play somewhere! We've been looking forward to it since the beginning of the tour. We are so honored to be able to play there... Twice! :)
What has been the weirdest thing to happen at a show? Do you get protective over one another when fans start being the angsty, crazy people that they are?
We've been pretty lucky in terms of hecklers and stuff...Hasn't really happened to us in a major way. Every once in a while there will be someone who's too intense in the audience and we just do our best to block it out and keep the show going.
Denver is excited to have you guys, anything you want to add?
We're more excited :) See you at Red Rocks!
