Red Bull Sound Select | The Joy Formidable w/ The Epilogues and Wire Faces | Review

The Red Bull Sound Select landed in Denver on a modest Tuesday night in the intimate and I emphasize intimate Three Kings Tavern on South Broadway. With a capacity of just under 500 people, the stage was set for what turned out to be a pleasant concert experience. The nights festivities got started with strong opening acts from both Wire Faces and The Epilogues, who who both warmed the crowd up for the nights main event. It was my first time seeing Wire Faces and while they do introduce a non conventional element with the lead vocals coming from the drummer, it seemed to fit in perfectly into their style of rock. Next up was one of our favorite local bands The Epilogues, the more we see these guys the more their sound begins to mature, such was the case with a few new songs we got to hear.

At first glance The Joy Formidable looks like they would be the nicest band in the world, once plugged in they unleash controlled chaos while still being able to slow it down with heartfelt lyrics that pack an emotional punch. Lead singer Ritzy Bryan although tiny in stature manages to flail on guitar and delivers an unrivaled performance. With a new album just released the crowd seemed to open up with a warm reception to the newer material. Red Bull continues to make their presence felt in our fair city and we can only expect bigger and better things down the line.
