Sunday night at Red Rocks played host to Alex Ebert and the rest of his band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The crowd, with gigantic smiles on their faces and a skip in their step seemed to be astounded by Sunday nights performance. The band has become used to playing this venue as this may have been the third or fourth time they have held it down.

Getting the night started was Alabama Shakes and man did they excite the crowd. Lead singer, Brittany Howard can really wail. Her voice filled the acoustic friendly outdoor paradise and then some. The bands soulful blues-rock really meshed with the crowd and you could sense the excitement they had for playing in such a venue. Of course Alabama Shakes played their wonderfully catchy and fun songs "Hold On," and "Hang Loose"; but as the sun began to set the pace slowed down a bit for tracks like "Heartbreaker," and "Boys & Girls". Brittany sings and plays each song with a huge amount of emotion.

With the sun set and the living room looking stage set up, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros began to play their whimsical, sing-along folk/rock. With a huge cheer after "40 Day Dream," was played, one could really feel with excitement and joy. It made you want to throw your arm around the person next to you and start dancing and singing along. Alex Ebert, lead singer, jumped off the stage and straight into the crowd during it's opening numbers. The loyal crowd cheered and sang along as Alex moved through the first couple of rows. All of this was during the first three songs and the rest of the show was just as satisfying. This concert was quite the experience that I don't think any patron of Red Rocks, Sunday night will forget for quite a while. Check out more photos here.
