Tellerpalooza | May 11 | Mercury Cafe

Tellerpalooza, a music festival fundraising event hosted by Teller Elementary in Denver, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 11, 2013, at the Mercury Café. Tellerpalooza raises funds annually to support school programs including music and arts. This year, local rockers John Common and Fierce Bad Rabbit will lead the diverse line-up of musical talent, including the Teller Band and Choir.

“Our parents at Teller are very passionate about the school and their creative fundraising events, like Tellerpalooza, are reflective of the love of learning and the arts that is central to the culture of our school,” said Teller Elementary Principal, Jessica Downs. “The funds raised allows us to continue to provide valuable programming to our students.

In addition to John Common and Fierce Bad Rabbit, this year’s music festival will feature Rachel & the Kings, Eldren and The Foot. Budding musicians from Teller’s own school band will launch the festivities at 4 p.m. and the music will continue throughout the evening. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Last year, more than 700 people attended Tellerpalooza and the event raised more than $15,000 to fund music, art, physical education as well as Gifted and Talented programs and teacher assistants. Conceived in 2004 by music-loving Teller parents, the event has grown into this east Denver elementary school’s biggest fundraiser. Past musical acts include: DeVotchKa, Bop Skizzum, Wendy Woo, The Heyday, The Swayback and Angie Stevens. Bands donate their time and talent to support the event.

This year’s acts represent a wide range of musical styles – from indie to pop to hard rock. “The event really offers something for everyone, from bands that are just emerging to groups who have been mainstays on the Denver-area scene,” said Teller parent and Tellerpalooza talent recruiter Bryan Giese.

The Mercury Café has long served as the home of Tellerpalooza. Known for serving fresh, organically grown local food, the Mercury Café will provide a special menu for Tellerpalooza. The 2013 event is sponsored by: Mercury Cafe, KTCL Channel 93.3, Yelp Denver, Udi's Food, Rosen Properties and Colorado Commercial Services.
