Speakeasy Tiger Reunion | The Marquis | April 27

We were fortunate enough to be invited to check out the much anticipated Speakeasy Tiger Reunion show this past Saturday night at The Marquis. Upon arriving at the venue, one could since nervousness, uncertainty, and a somewhat tense feeling in the air. Much is the case with any reunion show, you can never anticipate what will happen. Luckily for us the night was filled with some of Denver's finest local acts. We didn't get to see The Portrait (we promise we will catch your next show), and arrived just in time for Brave Song Circle who consists of Dustin Morris and Lauren Gale (both who later filled their double duty by playing with Speakeasy Tiger). They managed to warm up the crowd with their unique blend of psychedelic rock. The band will be playing a few shows in the coming months so make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Next up was Take To the Oars, we have kind of adopted this band in our own sense getting a chance to work closely with these guys on one of our "Ultra5280 Sessions" a few months ago. Strongly considered one of Denver's finest, they bring a passionate urgency with every single live performance. Led by frontman Ryan Gombeski, the quartet played an infectious set that had the crowd buzzing, they even had local favorite Josh Lee join them for the anthem "Bar Talk" which had the whole venue singing in unison, truly one of the night's highlights.

I had never seen Speak Easy Tiger before, so for me this was a chance to see a band that many consider instrumental in today's Denver music scene. Just as those in attendance were eagerly awaiting their set, I began to imagine the impact they had a few years ago and if it would carry over into the nights performance. Led by the lovely Kyle Aubrey Simmons the band kicked into "Limbs," after a few chords the nervousness was gone and it was as they had never taken a break. The band didn't miss a beat as they played though their catalog of songs that made them a household name just a few years ago. With only a few practices under their belt, Simmons joked about having to play with a clicker and getting used to it. Those who witnessed this show will have an everlasting memory of what a great band they saw perform. Here is hoping that the one-off reunion show sparks an eventual formidable band once again.
