PAPADOSIO AT BLUEBIRD THEATER: AUGUST 27, 2011: REVIEW

Kyle Risner

Being that it had been over a week since the newest members of Ultra5280 had visited the Bluebird Theater in Denver, we figured that it would be time to pay another visit. Friday night offered up the opportunity to dance away the stress from the week with the smooth dance sounds from the five-piece group known as Papadosio from North Carolina.

Damn Right come on soon after and it was then that those in attendance started moving their feet to the progressive electric music they were pumping out. There aren’t many shows that I go to where I truly enjoy the openers, but this was one of them. They did exactly what they should have; set a tone, get people loosened up, and garner interest in them as a band.

The thing that I love most about small venues, especially the Bluebird is the proximity to the bands that play the stage. Being that close you could really see the emotion each band members faces. They are in the business for the true love of playing the music that they themselves want to listen to. That kind of passion is showcased through their music and flows right into the swaying audience.

The night continued flawlessly as Papadosio rolled through a near 2 1/2-hour set that surprising left me asking for more. Papadosio is currently on their Colorado 2011 tour and after playing in Bond, CO, have one more stop in Aspen on the 30th of August before heading back east.
