So-Gnar Presents Shredded Beats | Deltron 3030 with Guests | Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom | September 15
Every now and then we get to go to a show that leaves us speechless and such was the case this past Saturday at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, for what can be hailed as one of the most talked about shows to go down in Denver this year. So-Gnar hosted one of the most influential underground hip hop groups of all time, in fact it was a reunion of sorts (they did play Rock The Bells earlier this year), but aside from that show it has been a while since true hip hop heads have had a chance to see Deltron 3030. The supergroup of Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Del the Funky Homosapien and Kid Koala (absent due to flight issues), make up the talented trio. With only one album under their belt, Deltron 3030, the crew took the stage shortly after midnight to a hyped crowd. Taking the stage in a full parka, Del and company started things off with "3030" giving the crowd a familiar track to sing along to. The set's conclusion had the sweaty masses singing the lyrics from Gorillaz's "Clint Eastwood", a perfect ending to a perfect night. Those leaving the venue after the set all came to the conclusion that Deltron 3030 still knows how to rock the mic, with carefully sharp edged lyrics and amazing production, I am counting down the days until their new release.
Earlier in the night, sets by Input (who played one of his tightest sets I have seen to date) was joined by Caleb Slade on a few tracks that warmed up the crowd. The ReMINDers, gained a few new fans with their high energy set. Flanked by the duo of Aja Black and Big Samir I was introduced to a hidden gem making its rounds in the underground scene. Air Dubai packed the house with a magnitude of classics and a few tracks off the forthcoming album Be Calm. Pretty Lights DJ and producer Paul Basic held his own to an unfamiliar crowd giving us that electro hip-hop cutting edge sound. The night truly belonged to Deltron 3030, leaving no room for error they managed to put on a hell of a show. Check out the slideshow below as well as our Photo section for more.
